Protran’s Portable System complements mandatory safety procedures based on human flaggers equipped with flags, whistles, or horns – to detect oncoming trains or any other type of vehicle and alert workers. The train detector reliably detects the passage of a train or other on-track equipment using optical sensors and relays warning to one or Portable Warning Horn and Lights (PWHL) and workers wearing Personal Alert Devices (PAD). The system minimizes the risk of vehicle to worker collision by providing an additional layer of safety to standard operating procedure. The units runs on internal battery power to provide a full shift of reliable operation.

The Protran Technology Portable Roadway Worker Protection system is used to alert track work crews of an approaching rail-bound vehicle. It can alert work crews on occupied or adjacent tracks. The system is used as a secondary warning to add a layer of safety to existing agency’s procedures. The Portable Train Detector is used in combination with flaggers and advance watchmen. The system is flexible, easy to install and alerts any worksite area. The Personal Alert Device (PAD) and Portable Warning Horn/-Light (PWH&L) communicate with the Portable Train Detector. Once a train is detected, a signal is sent to the PADs and PWH&L, warning the crew of an approaching vehicle and giving them sufficient time to clear the tracks.
